Overpriced, but worth it!
While the price for the product seems excessive, the product resolves numerous issues I've had with my Neato. The noise on the hardwood is gone, and more importantly my very thick and new carpet no longer causes the Neato to sound like its dying. Previously, it sounded like it was having a tough time turning the brush and we would hear it making a skipping sound. This new brush is totally quite!
Also, the upgrade to 2.6 firmware has been an excellent experience. The docking is, for the first time, very reliable. I may actually program the clock and set a schedule! Previously, the neato would regularly fail to dock, the battery would die, and I would lose the clock setting.
So upgrade at the excessive price? If your having these problems, its a must get. Since Neato service has been so excellent, I'm writing off the high profit margin to my contribution to the Rhoomba competitor in the hopes it stays afloat.
Great, and not only for pet owners...
This upgrade (a more effective filter and a bristle brush to replace the plastic paddle brush that comes with most Neatos) is great, and ironically I think it would actually be best for someone with NO pets. The bristle brush does a much better job of cleaning the carpet and picking up dirt and is also much quieter than the paddle brush... but with a bunch of pets as you can imagine it would have to have hair unwound from it frequently. But with no pets, this would be the ideal situation. You'd probably still need to clean the brush more often, but it would be maybe once or twice a week max.
We have one cat, and it's not much of a cleaning problem as far as I can tell even then. Maybe if you had multiple pets the brush would get impacted quickly, but not so much with just one pet around. And now Neato picks up the fuzz balls that previously were left behind stuck on the carpet. Also, the combo of the new higher-flow filter and the bristle brush definitely picks up...
Less noise that original, better on carpet, but same on "bare" floors.
Less noise that original on wooden floors.
Better results on carpet.
Same as original on "bare" floors.
I strongley recommend if the sound is an issue, and if you have a lot of carpets.
If not, just buy the improved/thicker filter! That filter collects more small particles.
